Students practise sustainable development
 |
Goldcrest High, Vashi developed an innovative way to create awareness on sustainable development. The children along with their parents participated in the event. Principal Anjana Roy informed, "Children were made to collect used waste from their home for the 'Recycling Week' to spread the awareness of the recycle, reuse and reproduce concept. The second step was imagination. Every student came up with fresh and innovative ideas and created the best that they could from the waste articles. Various wonderful things like wall hangings, bangle boxes, candle stands, show pieces etc. were created by them using discarded items like old jars, boxes, toys and waste like vegetable peels and so on. They explored their creative skills and came up with various interesting styles of painting like pot painting and finger and stencil painting on plain white t-shirts, made a bag by cutting their old pair of jeans and stitching it and using a belt for carrying the bag; candles by pouring liquid wax into a wine glass and decorating it with beads of different colours and pearls." An auction-cum-sale with some final touches was organised on July 31 for the parents of the children. The children were made aware of the importance of contributing to the society when the proceeds of the auction were donated to Aarambh, an NGO working with underprivileged children.
