Kartikay Saini always dreamt big. Polite in words, kind at heart, Kartikay believes in keeping his promises. At present, he is into many things. He is the chairman of Scottish High International School, Director of Special Olympics, Bharat Delhi, Director of Hema Engineering Industries Ltd and Head, Research & Development, Autism Research Centre of India. An alumni of the Sacred Heart Convent School and the National Defence Academy, Pune, he served the nation in uniform for 15 years. Born in Punjab, 43-year old Kartikay is a resident of Sushant Lok and he loves to spend time with kids. He has a soft corner for children with special needs. Initial stage He received the Chief of Naval Staff commendation for dedication to duty on August 15, 1997 and was recommended in 2001 for the Vishisht Seva Mandal. As a Joint Controller of Foreign Defence Procurement, New Delhi, Kartikay Saini decided to prematurely quit the Navy whilst continuing to serve the nation but through another path. "Navy taught me many things and I have tried to implement them at every step in my life. In the business we take care of employees' family, hold get-togethers, promote team work etc. I feel satisfied," says Kartikay. Dream come true With a determined vision, he embarked upon an International Senior Secondary School project in Gurgaon in the year 2004, with Scottish High International School. With ICSE board IGCSE affiliation, Cambridge University and the International Baccalaureate Organization, Geneva, this day-boarding school is said to be one of the best schools in the NCR bestowed with an international standard in academics. It is the first school, Kartikay says, in the country to process a combined grading with ISO 9000, 14000, and OSHAS 18000 at the same time. "I got the support of Shomi Das who is an educationist and was the pillar of the concept of starting a Scottish standard school. We didn't plan for the Scottish concept but I was impressed with Scotland culture. When the school was complete, everything looked so Scottish that we named it Scottish High," he says. Soft corner for kids with special needs Kartikay is the Director of Special Olympics, Bharat Delhi and Head, Research & Development, Autism Research Centre of India. He tries to educate children with special needs. "We have 12 autistic students in our school and they are studying with the mainstream students. I hope they have a bright future ahead," he says. Kartikay is a recipient of many awards which include CNS commendation from the NAVY, "GEM OF INDIA" award in 2004, the "BEST CITIZEN AWARD 2010, and RASHTRIYA GAURAV" award 2010. Future Plans His vision is to establish an integrated Vocational Training Institute for children with special needs and a state of the- art college for higher education to build great personalities and professionals in the field of Science, Technology and Management. "The institute for higher education is planned to be functional by year 2011. My dream project is to open an educational centre for autistic students.
