'Writing was always a passion for me'

There are a few people whose passion becomes a profession. Dr Rajeev Sharma is one such fortunate person whose passion ultimately became his bread and butter and drove him out of near depression.
A Central Government doctor, Dr Sharma says, "Professionally I am a doctor, but I have always been a writer from heart. It was my passion and profession both that helped me come out of the traumatic days of my life. That was the time when I was reminded of the words 'Make your passion your profession' which has come out as a true blessing for me," says Dr Sharma, a resident of Kumar Excellency Plaza, Vasundhara.
The expedition was on
A BHMS in homeopathy and Post Graduate in yoga and naturopathy, Dr Rajeev Sharma claims to be a self-made man. Born in Bulandshahr, he travelled to several places to experiment on several therapies and his passion for writing. About writing he says, he concentrated on small write-ups and essays since his childhood. He did his Polistic therapy and alternative medicine study in Calcutta and shifted back to Bulandshahr. There he started with his own practice.
The unexpected
Things were going well but at the age of 30, Dr Rajeev suffered from cervical spondylosis. "The problem was so severe that I had to stop my practice. I had a kid and a house to manage. I got worried about survival. That was when I decided to get back to writing."
Passion turned profession
A writer since childhood, Dr Rajeev Sharma had spent most of his student life writing stories for 'Nadan' and 'Parag', famous Hindi magazines for kids. He was also into essays and wrote health columns for one of the leading local Hindi newspapers. He also compiled his articles into a book named 'Homeopathy dwara swayam chikitsa'.
Lying on bed helplessly, his passion for writing seemed to be the only ray of hope for him. "So I started writing a book while on bed about alternative therapies and got it published. Though I knew I was being paid less, but that was my necessity to bring my life back on track so I decided to move on. In 2000, I got a government job. Meanwhile I kept on writing books for different publishers on alternate therapies," says Sharma. He finally shifted to Noida on June 21, 2005.
The days of glory
Dr Rajeev has been awarded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India for the fifth consecutive year. His name has also been published in "Limca Book of Records 2005" and is soon going to be published in "India Book of Records" as he has written more than 250 books on health for general public in Hindi and English which have been published by renowned publishers of India. Besides he has also received "Best Author Prize" from Ministry of Home, Govt. of India and "Human Rights Promotion Award" from the Indian Institute of Human Rights in 2001.
I felt satisfied and content
"Writing was always a passion for me. But when I receive letters from readers that my books helped them to cure diseases I feel obliged and satisfied. I am happy about my work as the books are still doing good and helping out people," says Dr Rajeev Sharma.
