Bangur Nagar residents have been working for the development of the society
There are very few individuals in the society who strive to give the society something back. Dr A R K Pillai and Dr Narayan Iyer are two such people, who are working for the development of the Indian society, by creating awareness about leprosy, tuberculosis, educating the underprivileged and cleaning slums. The duo are now promoting bal gurukuls across India, so that school children who do not get the benefits of tuitions, can study in these gurukuls.
Says Dr Iyer, “Currently we are intending to take up the cause of cleaning the slums at Malwani in Malad. Every individual wants to live in a hygienic condition; however, due to circumstances like
ignorance, unawareness and poverty, they fail to lead a hygienic life. So we are helping them to get their area cleaned, along with some young volunteers. We have also asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to join hands with us for this cause. We also plan to start a similar campaign at Bhagat Singh Nagar, Goregaon.”
There are 62 bal gurukuls across India and by the end of this year, they plan to open 38 more gurukul and make it 100.
Dr Iyer adds, “If we get to change the life of even one individual for the better, then I believe we have done our job. I am glad that our work is benefitting many people across the country now, and we would continue doing so in the coming times.”
