JagranCityPlus / Bangalore (Indranagar)
When will BBMP solve these 'burning' issues?
Cityplus had highlighted in its Indiranagar editions a few months ago two glaring lapses on the part of the civic authorities: One, street lights being kept on even during the day time, that too at a time when there is acute power shortage, and two, heaps of garbage piling up and rotting in a deserted building on 13th Main, HAL 2nd Stage causing air pollution in the whole area.
But even after highlighting these issues, the situation has not changed a wee bit. It seems the officials are least bothered about the huge wastage of power even as they snap power supply for hours in many places of the city. The irony of it all is that street lights are allowed to be on in the day and they are not switched on at night! In Indiranagar 10th Main, for example, many streets are dark around 8 pm and even at 10 pm. "I use this road regularly, but the street is dark even at night. I don't know why they have put off street lights," said Avijit, a resident of Indiranagar. But - and note this well -- the street lights on 100 ft Road keep on burning till 4 pm (read till evening!)
Other residents also said that they had seen street lights and mast lights in the nearby villages burning even at 12 pm. "There is power cut every day. But I have seen mast lights burning at noon in Doopanahalli village," said another resident of Indiranagar. The other issue, which was published in Cityplus Indiranagar edition - that of rotting garbage in an empty building - too remains unattended by the BBMP staff. On 13th Main, HAL 2nd Stage there is an empty building which is under litigation. This building is not home to anyone but, yes, it is being used by the residents nearby as a garbage dumping yard. After the report appeared in Cityplus, the only thing that happened there was that the garbage was just pushed inside!
"There is no change. The only thing is that somebody pushed the garbage into the building. The BBMP can at least get it cleaned," said Ranganath, a resident of 13th Main. The residents also said that there is a bad smell all around and mosquitoes are breeding fast. "There is a chance of the outbreak of malaria and dengue fever," said another resident.
