Pitter-patter of rains gets too much for city roads to bear
 |
Monsoon is the best the time to test the quality of work of government contactors who are entrusted with the task of repairing roads in different parts of the city. As the recent downpour showed little mercy, city roads once again presented a poor show. Several stretches of roads failed to take beating from rains. Take for example the roads of Sushant Lok-I. The road behind A Block was completely washed away and only recently the road had been repaired by concerned authorities. Now the road is totally unfit for commuting. There are a number of such stretches in Sushant Lok-I and South City-I and residents and motorists are at their wits' end on how to commute. "As compared to last year, the city administration has pumped in a lot of money for recarpeting of roads. But how is monitoring of works done by contractors done and what are the criteria for their inspection? The recent has shown how brazenly these contactors have cheated the public by using poor quality materials. Such contractors should be brought to book," says, A K Sharma from DLF-III. What to talk of colony road even main roads are in dilapidated condition. The road starting from IFFCO Chowk to Bata Chowk is a long stretch in pathetic condition. Pitches have worn out completely and a big pothole has been created. The stretch is getting dangerous and accident-prone. "Yesterday two boys driving a scooter fell down and were seriously injured as they failed to negotiate the pothole. Most roads of Gurgoan have turned into veritable pits," says R S Sharma, resident of DLF-I. As most roads have been riddled with potholes traffic moves at snail's pace, leading to gridlocks at several places. When the matter was brought to the notice of a HUDA official he promptly passed the buck saying, "It is not only a problem with HUDA roads. Even roads of other civic agencies like PWD and Municipal Corporation are eroding. We have to see how much our roads have been damaged and accordingly we will repair them". |
