DMRC damages boundary wall, fails to repair

The Metro has come as boon to residents of Mayur Vihar. But for residents of Lovely Apartments, it is not the same. Reason: its boundary which was damaged when the Mayur Vihar-1 Extension's metro station was being built is caught in bureaucratic red tape. Couple of years back when Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was carrying out its construction work, the boundary wall of our society along with a few other societies were badly affected. And in spite of reminders time and again to the DMRC authorities, nothing was being done and gradually the society fell prey to many unavoidable problems in the absence of a strong boundary wall. After the matter was published in Cityplus and many applications later, DMRC authorities showed some action. But Lovely Apartment's residents felt cheated," said Baldev Singh, president of Lovely Cooperative Group Housing Society Ltd. Despite a delegation including, Shankar Bhan, chairman of Federation of Residents Welfare Association, Mayur Vihar-1 Extension along with Baldev Singh, president, SN Gupta, vice president and Tanuj Jain, secretary of Lovely Apartments Cooperative Group of Housing Societies met MP of east Delhi Sandeep Dikshit a couple of months back, nothing fruitful has come out of that meeting. Where the boundary wall of Samachar Apartments, adjoining Lovely Apartments, is being reconstructed, the boundary wall of Lovely Apartments with the same damage is just being plastered. "We are not able to understand why DMRC is showing this step motherly attitude to us when we are equally facing the same problems as other societies in the area. Due to a weak boundary wall, there is always a fear in the society that the wall may collapse any moment. Moreover, as DMRC raised the road level on the other side, it has become easier for anti-social elements to get inside the society. In the past, many of our residents had to suffer big losses due to thefts because of this boundary wall," said Rashmi Anand, a resident of Lovely Apartments, Mayur Vihar-1 Extension. Though, many a time the residents tried to put iron wiring to prevent people from scaling the wall, the structure has become so weak that it doesn't support such load for long and the efforts get wasted. "The construction of Samachar Apartments' boundary wall is nearing completion. When we approached DMRC's deputy chief engineer Haque, on July 20 to know the status about our wall, we were told that our society wall will not be reconstructed. He said at the most they might repair the wall later on. However, mere repair of this wall will not serve the purpose, as it has been shaken from the plinth level. In one of the meetings in March, Haque had reiterated his promise to look into the matter. But it appears that the DMRC authorities are not keeping their promise," complained Baldev Singh. DMRC's deputy chief engineer Md Sirajul Haque said, "There is a road level difference between Samachar Apartments and the metro station. This is the reason we are constructing the boundary of Samachar Apartments from top to bottom. However, on the other hand the road level is same between the station and the Lovely society so we are not constructing the boundary wall from starting." On asking about the security that would be on stake due to broken boundary wall, he said, "We are repairing the broken parts in the boundary wall that would strengthen the entire structure." |
