Greno gets dirty water to drink; residents not amused
 |
Residents of Greno are tired of complaining of the filthy and stinking water they have been getting for a long time. Forget drinking, the water is not even for normal use. For Greater Noida, water supply has emerged as one of the basic civic problems in the area and the authorities are least bothered. According to Rajeev Kumar Thakur, member of Greno Citizens Association, "Water supply and its quality is the biggest worry here. The main complaints are about hard water, which is non-potable. Then, the water is unclean, as the overhead tanks are rarely cleaned. There are also numerous leaks in the water supply network." Supply water, if available, is not good enough for use. Residents generally depend on ground water, which is so hard that they have to buy mineral water or install RO systems, which is a costly affair. KS Rana, a resident says, "Everybody cannot afford to install RO system." Pinki Tripathi, a resident of Beta-I says, "We have filed several complaints with the GNIDA but except for assurances that the situation would improve, nothing else has been done to improve the quality of water." Few days back, some residents of Beta sector saw small worms and snakes falling from their water taps. Residents of Beta sector say that after several complaints, authority officials inspected the water pipelines and sent plumbers to check. After that the quality of water was better only for four to five days and then the water turned dirty again and the problem was back to square one. Satpal Bhati, senior manager, GNIDA says, "We have not received any recent complaints from any residents of any sector. For maintenance of water pipes we have given the responsibilities to several contractors and they manage very well." In Delta I, II, and III sectors, there are five pumps to aid water supply to the residents but two have been damaged for a long time and one pump is nearing its end. Residents in upper floors do not get water supply properly because of low pressure from the pipeline. Jitender Bhati, an advocate and president of RWA, Delta-I says, "The supply of water sometimes is very little in our area. Whenever a water line gets cracked or some kind of fault appears, we receive stinking water. We have filed several written complaints but to no avail." Abdul Shahid, official concerned of Delta Sector, says, "It is wrong to say that the water we provide is dirty. Recently, we have mixed chlorine in the water supply line to purify it. One contractor has been allotted all three Delta sectors for the maintenance and cleanliness. And for each sector two plumbers are assigned." Shahid added, "As soon as we get any complaints, our supervisors start acting on it and plumbers are send to the sites." —Dipanshu Roy |
